Babe named as a Business Communicator of the Year
Bayer MaterialScience CEO wins IABC Award for diverse comms achievements.

2007 Business Communicator of the Year Award on September
26.
Embracing diversity issues
Tina Jerzyk and Mary Cvetan, co-presidents of IABC/Pittsburgh, a local
chapter of the International
Association of Business Communicators,
announced Babe's selection yesterday.
"It's because of [Bayer's employees'] hard work that I am afforded the opportunities to communicate all of the great work we do from promoting diversity in the workplace and employing people with disabilities... The key to our success is in our employees," said Babe.
Flying with WINGS
Prior to his current position, Babe was president and CEO of Bayer
Corporate and Business Services and he joined Bayer in 1980 as an
intern at Bayer's New Martinsville, WV, plant. He's now responsible
for North American activity at the company with 3,200 employees.
His communications programs include:
- Supporting Bayer's management training program by meeting with its annual intern class and presenting at the company's yearly management training conference.
- Instituting the "Culture of Choice" program of employee workshops and a biannual employee survey.
- Conducting monthly meetings of his North American Leadership Team to track progress against six goals that he and his team set to guide their business success.
- Serving as executive sponsor of WINGS, the Women's
Initiative
Networking Group at Bayer. - Three times a year, he conducts a town hall meeting with employees to provide an update and a forum for Q&As.
