Westpac appoints Gail Kelly as CEO

Experienced executive becomes banking organization's first female CEO.

gail kellyGail Kelly, currently CEO of St George Bank, will join Westpac Banking Corporation in February 2008 as the company's first female CEO. She will succeed Dr David Morgan who has been Westpac's CEO since March 1999.

Kelly, 51, brings to Westpac an extensive record of achievement in financial services in Australia. During her 6 years as CEO of St George Bank, she's delivered consistent financial performance and built an enterprise culture around high employee engagement and leading customer satisfaction.

Living up to a lasting legacy
"She's a proven chief executive whose values are closely aligned to the Westpac culture. "Gail has the energy, skills and experience we need," said Ted Evans, Westpac’s chairman of the board.

Dr Morgan will remain CEO until Kelly's employment at Westpac commences next year.
