Employee engagement remains the top priority for internal communicators in 2012
Nearly half of internal communication professionals cite employee engagement as their main focus over the next 12 months.
For many within the internal communication function, 2011 was a challenging year for increasing engagement levels among employees, in a time of budgetary constraints, across the board cost-cutting, recruitment and pay-freezes. And it seems 2012 may offer more of the same.
In a recent poll by Melcrum, nearly half (46.1%) of internal communication professionals surveyed cited employee engagement as their top priority for the year ahead, continuing the trend from last year.
Communicating organizational strategy also remains a main priority for nearly a quarter, as 23.5 percent of communicators plan to focus on increasing awareness and understanding.
Surprisingly, despite key findings from Melcrum's Key Benchmarking Data for Communicators 2011 which revealed top areas for investment in 2012 would be resources, including the intranet (62%), social media (61%), video (54%) and communication training for managers (47%), only 7.8 percent of internal communicators say they plan to introduce new technology into their organization in the next 12 months.
The poll findings also revealed 10.8 percent plan to spend an increasing amount of time demonstrating ROI of their activities to the business, and a further 11. 8 percent hope to improve their relationship with leaders.
