Beware of work "mates" who stab you in the back – literally!

Keep a close eye on post-work drinking buddies.

The occasional workplace gripe is a fact of life for people right across the world, irrespective of job or industry, but few stories will come close to the tale of electrician, Yury Lyalin, who is reported to have awoken one morning recently with a 15 centimeter knife wedged firmly in between his shoulder blades.

Brawl with colleague
In case you've not seen the story reported this week, here's the amusing tale to help speed up your Friday afternoon:

Lyalin had been taking the bite out of a tough day by having a drink or several with a security guard colleague when the two had a "sharp" disagreement.

Lyalin only became aware of the knife when his wife woke him up after several hours asleep.

Despite walking home, stopping for a bite to eat and lying down to sleep off the effects the alcohol, Lyalin only became aware of the knife he'd been stabbed with when his wife woke him up after several hours asleep.

The knife, "went into soft tissue and by pure luck did not touch any vital organs," said a doctor who treated Lyalin.

"We got drunk together. Things happen when you drink," said Lyalin, who has clearly taken a philosophical perspective about being stabbed in the back by a colleague, literally.

Word of warning
Our public safety announcement: be careful out there this weekend Hub folks, and watch out who you drink with, because "things happen when you drink"!

Have your say
