Cisco signs Brad Whitworth for senior comms role

Print Print version

Experienced internal communications practitioner heads up Strategic Alliances team.

Brad Whitworth, has joined Cisco in the San Francisco Bay area as its senior communications manager for the Strategic Alliances sector of the networking technology organization.

Blended communication role
Having left Calafornia State Auto Association (CSAA) in September 2006, where he was director of enterprise communication, Whitworth is now responsible for the communication practitioners who form part of the 160-strong Strategic Alliances team worldwide. This integrated communications role involves "a blend of employee communications, media relations, executive communication and analyst relations," he says.

We're going to be asking people 'What is it you need?' in order to gauge what consumers of information require.

Once fully settled into his role, Whitworth's hoping to take an in-depth focus on Cisco's user-centric communication. "We're going to be asking people 'What is it you need?' to gauge what our internal consumers of information require and how our various information sources are used. We can then determine what level of depth in communication is appropriate," he says.

Sharing best practice
Another teamwide communication project Whitworth will be working on is "developing a roadmap to assess the value of what we currently do, identifying good practices around the organization, sharing those best practices and also finding out what else we could be doing better," he says.

In addition to his comms experience at CSAA, Whitworth has also been director of internal communications at Peoplesoft, and before that, internal communications manager at Hewlett-Packard. He's also a past chairman of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
